What to expect about this book?

Mors Kochanski's "Bushcraft" opens the door to the world of bushcraft in a way that will makes you feel like your sitting down with your grandfather and learning about real wilderness survival. His in-depth knowledge and attention to detail to each subject he touches on, is just incredible. Each time you read a new topic, he fills the pages with illustrations to give you the reader a visual ability to grasp the subject more clearly, which for you visual learners this book is filled with tons of illustrated examples for each topic. When I first began to read this book I was happily surprised at how much time and effort he put into each subject as if he was personally sitting right next to you teaching you as if you the reader knew nothing about the subject period, and well by the end your knowledge of the subject was going to be well grasped and able to carryout easily when put to practice later on your own. Which frankly I can't say that about a lot of books out there on the market these days. For example, in chapter 3 Knifecraft Mors not only tells you how to hold your knife, and what positions present possible dangers, but you will see by illustration what he means and why by the illustration he is telling you how to cut and where to cut using the knife, as he even helps you learn some notches as well.

When he talks about the axe, he does what I feel all that one could humanly possibly do in written form, to explain the dangers and helping the reader know how to use an axe as well as felling trees without real life human interaction. Which by the way, for those out there new to felling trees and chopping wood, mor said in a video interview "if someone one with no experience spent 8 hours a day felling trees with a well trained person for 10 days he would be able to confidently know how to fell trees with no problem and do so with complete confidence."  One of my favorite topics was Sheltercraft in which he talks about the physics of how to build your shelter in relationship to wind current, and what types of shelters to build and for what environment your might be in. Some of the many other topics he covers as well are how to extract pin tar from wood, how to make birch bark baskets, and how to twist branches and roots or fibers from plants and make natural cordage and much much more.
