Training: Carving a netting needle and gauge Tools: bushcraft knife, mallet Experience: I attempted to carve a netting needle using bamboo as my soft wood source but to no avail. The fibers are too close together and when seeking to cut into it with a knife can easily lead to splitting which takes place in the wood way too often, thus making the carving project useless. Notes: Although one may by some means us other things to kind patch up the lateral splits this wood is best not used altogether.
